tracer for HVAC
« on: May 03, 2019, 05:48:36 am »

Hello,
Is it possible to have massless tracer when using HVAC network? Can not find how to. For supply vents no problem.

thanks

Hello,

This is not possible at this time, it is a limitation of FDS in how we cannot specify particles to source from our recirculate through HVAC vents/systems. I would recommend that you add a feature request for this to the FDS Issue Tracker. https://github.com/firemodels/fds/issues/new

If you are looking to trace the movement of gasses within a room/volume, then you could just add a particle cloud source for the room volume.  Make sure to set the age of the particles such that they move around for the duration you are interested in.

I have created little volumes of particle clouds (massless tracer) in front of each HVAC vents (17 in total). Works beautifully, just like tracer from supply vents. It seems to be doing the same job. Thanks again!
