Restart Effect on Run Time
« on: December 18, 2016, 04:42:34 pm »

What is the effect of having more frequent restart's in an FDS model? Say I went for one every 100 seconds as opposed to every 300 seconds, would there be a dramatic increase in run time?

The cost associated with frequent restart checkpoints is that you accumulate a lot of data in your output folder. The time spent writing restart data to disk is tends to be very small compared to the time spent stepping the solver. Which is to say, I don't think you would see much performance improvement by making restart data less frequent.
