Behemoth.exe has stopped working

I have been trying out the new Smokeview overlay feature. In one case, it worked perfectly but in another case, even though the SMV file is loaded but showing any slice resulted in "Behemoth.exe has stopped working" error and the program stopped. The noticeable difference between the two cases is that the latter has more and larger slice files (each 55,000 KB vs 38,000 KB).
Both cases were run with FDS 5.5.3 serial (OpenMP enabled) SVN 7051 and Smokeview 5.6.
One first question among many is "which version of Smokeview is this overlay feature compatible with?" Is there a way to define the preference in Pathfinder?

We're sorry to hear you are having trouble with the new feature. As of now, the slice overlay feature is expected to work for all FDS results version 5.0 and later. The only reason that would change is if the team at NIST were to decide to change the output data format at some point down the road. If this happens we will attempt to integrate the changes quickly.

While it is difficult to guess what is going wrong based on your description, we'd be happy to help you further. Please consider sending an email to support@thunderheadeng.com. We'd stand our best shot at diagnosing the issue if you provided us a copy of the working model / FDS results for debug purposes. If this is not feasible, please let us know how you'd like to proceed. We would be happy to answer any further questions.
