Pedestrian crowd flow calculations
« on: February 03, 2015, 09:18:48 am »

I am wondering if Pathfinder is appropriate to use in other types of crowd flow calculations, not nessecerilay in the case of egress.
For example to study the movement of people during the peak hours in a subway station etc.?

Best regards,

Charlie Thornton

An obstacle for cases like that is that Pathfinder currently lacks some key features relating to what we label "circulation". Pedestrian generators, ticket counters, AI that can choose from multiple goals after hitting a decision point, etc.

We are planning to start making progress in these areas later this year. Though our effort for continuing to improve Pathfinder in that regard is divided between circulation and FDS results integration.

Hi Charlie,

After looking at the recent demonstration of "Pedestrian flow in a subway station using Pathfinder", i believe that Pathfinder now has the ability to model and simulate typical crowd flow problems.
What is your opinion?
