Door flow rate
« on: March 03, 2014, 06:02:17 am »

Hi,

If I use Steering mode with Limit Door Flow Rate option the Specific Flow is 1,32 pers/(s*m) by default. In the Verification & Validation document the Door Flow Rate (2.4) in Steering+SFPE or Steering mode the avg. Flow Rate is only 1,04 pers/(s*m).

Which Flow Rate is closer to reality?

Problem 2.4 is designed to verify that when we impose a flow rate, the resulting flow rates do on exceed the imposed flow rate. It is not a validation study and there is no corresponding real-life experiment to determine what is closer to reality.

The discrepancy between SFPE mode and the steering modes is likely due to the boundary layer being explicitly set to 0.0 meters. The boundary layer does not exist in the steering modes (this is assumed to be handled by avoidance behaviors) and these modes were unable to reduce it explicitly. Had the SFPE-mode simulation used the default boundary layer of 15 cm we would expect a lower flow rate (more in 2.4.1 "Setup Notes").
