What is your PyroSim version and your operating system (including 32/64 bit)?

Which version of windows? (e.g. xp, vista, 7, 8 ) I haven't seen this problem and it would be helpful to know which OS it's happening on.

Also:

* On the FDS menu there is an option, "Preview Model in Smokeview". Can you launch smokeview with this command?

* Is there anything unusual about your configuration? For example, is the operating system installed somewhere other than "C:\Windows" or is your PyroSim installation somewhere other than "C:\Program Files\PyroSim 2014".

* Is the problem running on a network or local drive?

Does your error message look like this?

Code: [Select]
*** Error: Smokeview file, ????????????.smv, not found
I think you have encountered a problem with FDS and smokeview's character set support. I generated that error by saving and running a PSM file named "????????????.psm". The characters (chinese, traditional han) exist in the UTF-8 character set used by PyroSim, but do not exist in the character set supported by FDS and smokeview. As a result, PyroSim sometimes writes filenames that FDS and smokeview does not understand.

The workaround for this bug is to use File/Save As... to change the name of your PSM file. To test: try saving your simulation as "fire-test.psm" and see if the error goes away.

EDIT: Evidently our forum also does not support extended character sets. I promise my example file name was very impressive.

Probabily it is because RAM or CPU in my computer, but you can confirme please?
Another question it's because vents in burner. The burner pyrosim example  suggests creating a "top vent" above the burner. Why is it needed?

I reduce my flie and a message (157) desaappear.

One more question: why appear a message ERROR: Specify orientation of VENT   2, MESH NUMBER  1 when vent 1 is a burner and in pyrosim examples are not a orientation.

Tanks,

The vent is in a location where FDS cannot automatically determine the direction and you need to manually specify the Normal Direction on the vent's Geometry panel.

Thank you,

Yes I specified the Normal Direction for my VENTS (with Outflow_Exhaust surface). In fact I have only 5 VENTS (1 for Burner, 1 for Door and 3 for Exit) However it still appear this message:
ERROR: Specify orientation of VENT   6, MESH NUMBER  2
I checked very carefully but still do not find any Vent left.
Could you please help me again?
Best regards
Yen
