Error Running Simulations BEHEMOTH.EXE
« on: February 17, 2013, 09:57:05 pm »

System:
Windows XP x64
When we try to run a simulation using Behemoth.exe we get this error message on this system:
"Behemoth.exe - unable to locate component"
"This application has failed to start because WMVCore.dll was not found. Re-Installing the application may fix this problem"

After googling i found it was something to do with a Windows Media player componnent, i updated my WMP to v11x64(the latest) and checked that both syswow64 and system32 fodlers had the WMVCore.dll files.

Any assistance appreciated.
Cheers

I don't know. This is the first time I've heard about this problem and it looks like you've already done the recommended fix. If you haven't rebooted since installing windows media player 11, I'd give that a shot.

I did find one page that suggested registering wimvcore.dll as a service to fix this problem:

http://dll.downloadatoz.com/wmvcore.dll-file.html

Which seems a bit questionable and I wouldn't trust the DLLs they give out on "downloadatoz", but same idea might be worth a try with your known-to-be-legit WMP11-installed DLL.

For anyone having a similar problem, here is a link to Microsoft's download page for Windows Media Player 11 for Windows XP 64-bit that should install the proper DLLs:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=12446

Evidently this can also happen on European versions of Windows Vista and Windows 7:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953693

I'll pass this around and see if anyone else has an idea. Please let us know if you get it working.

Hi Charlie,
No go unfortunately....
Tried everything i could think of.
1. Uninstalled all windows media player components rebooted and reinstalled
2. Made sure that wmvcore.dll was both in system32 and syswow64..as a side note it seems that your application looks at syswow64
3. made sure the windows path variable had both system32 and syswow64
4. tried manualy registering wmvcore.dll
5. tried running it as a service

I think we may have to abandon using it on this machine if you cant suggest anything.

Try dropping wmvcore.dll into your Pathfinder install folder - the same folder that contains behemoth.exe.

Storing DLLs alongside the programs that use them is the most reliable technique I know. If it doesn't get you up and running, we'll look into a patch that makes wmvcore.dll optional. It doesn't look like I can do a static compile (just bundle the code we need into behemoth.exe), but we should be able to make all but the recording features of the 3D Results work even if something is wrong with wmvcore.

Hi Charlie,
tried dropping the file in the same folder as behemoth.exe same error. we are going to upgrade this machine to Windows 7 x64 today, so don't worry about this issue anymore
