Pathfinder / Pedestrian crowd flow calculations

Hi,

I am wondering if Pathfinder is appropriate to use in other types of crowd flow calculations, not nessecerilay in the case of egress.
For example to study the movement of people during the peak hours in a subway station etc.?

Hi,

How do I take take the visibility factor and mass extinction coefficient into account in pyrosim 2014?
There was a specific tag for this under "Reactions" in pyrosim 2012, but I can't find it in the new version of pyrosim.

Hi,

I have the same problem in one of my projects, where both escalators and stairs are used for evacuation. I really liked that one of the new functions in Pathfinder 2013 is that you could specify flow rates through doors and stairs/escalators, but unfortunately it doesn't work for me. I have assigned a specific flow rate for the stairs that will be used as regular stairs which is less than the flow rate being used for the escalators. When I later look at the results the flow rates are significant lower than what I specified for both the stairs and the escalators. How come?

Hi,

I've been trying the beta version for a while and would like to give a few comments.
First of all I would like to say that I really like that the new version gives the user more control over movement. I really appreciate that.

One problem that I discovered in this version, as well as the earlier versions, is that occupants seems to get stuck which leads to unreasonably high evacuation times. I don't know the reason for it, but it could have something to do with the large amount of people in combination with the assigned behaviours to the occupants in order to navigate them to specific exists. 

I've attached a print screen from the 3D-result from a simulation where the occupants got stuck.

I'm currently working on a model were the maximum number of occupants are 6000.
Is there any restrictions on how many occupants you can put in a model?

Thanks Dave. Ok. So it's not possiple to combine the spread rate function with ramp up?  For example, if I would like to simulate the kind of fire I earlier described, which reduces after a particular time I could'nt use the spread rate function?

The FDS file for my fire scenario was to big, so I created a smaller file with a larger grid, which I've attached.
The concept for this fire is the same; The fire with max HRR of 1440 kW will peak at t=175 s. It is held constant for 60 s and then reduced to 1/3 the following 60 s, and after that the fire will be held constant at this value. I have the same problem with this fire, the reduction of the HRR occures to late (after approx 300 s instead of 235 s).

Hi,

I would like to simulate a fire by using the spread rate function. The fire will peak at a HRR of 1300 kW at t=160 s, during the next 60 s the HRR will be kept constant and after that the HRR will be reduced to 433 kW during the following 60 s and then the fire will be kept constant at this value.  I tried to use the ramp-up time function, see the values in the attached file. The first 160 s turned out as intended, the following part of the fire development did not turned out as intented, please see the the HHR curve in attached file. As you can see the reduction of the HRR accures after approximately 160 s and not 60 s as intentional.

Is there anyone who knows what I'm doing wrong?

I am grateful for all the help I can get.

Hi,

I recently been discovering something strange in pyrosim while using the multi-klick mode when I draw walls. It appears that "extra" walls, that are not visible in the pyrosim interface, are created in the FDS-file. These walls are visible in the smokeview file but not in the psm. file. To get rid of these walls I've randomly been deleting walls and suddenly the undesirable walls disappear, which leaves me to start drawing walls all over again. There should be an easier way to get rid of these extra walls, because "my way" is really time devastating. A picture of the extra walls are attached in this post.

Hi,

When I start a simulation in Pathfinder I get an error message looking like the attached file.
Does anyone know what this message means and what I should do to get my simulation running?
