Title: Visibility in pyrosim 2014
Post by: Sofia on April 11, 2014, 06:07:44 am
Hi,

How do I take take the visibility factor and mass extinction coefficient into account in pyrosim 2014?
There was a specific tag for this under "Reactions" in pyrosim 2012, but I can't find it in the new version of pyrosim.

Best regards,

Sofia

In FDS6, the mass extinction coefficient moved from the reaction definition to the species definition -- you have to select a User Defined fuel type when defining the reaction.

Similarly, visibility factor moved from the reaction definition to MISC (global parameters). In PyroSim 2014, you can find it in the Simulation Parameters dialog on the Environment tab.

Thanks!

I cannot find where to prescribe the mass extinction coefficient when I define a new species. I assumed it was under the tab "Soot", but I cannot find it under any of the tabs.

You are right. Right now, the only way to add it to a species to to put MASS_EXTINCTION_COEFFICIENT and the corresponding value in the advanced parameters tab of the species.

Thanks. You may want to update the User Manual as the description there for changing the Mass Extinction Coefficient is quite ambiguous.
